If you needed any proof that entering the PPC Imaginarium Awards can change your life and career, then Zanele Vilakazi must be it. Earlier this year, she blew our judges away with her ‘Alphga’ jewellery piece, and took home first prize in the Jewellery Category. Now, she’s onto bigger and better things, starting with the exhibition of her winning PPC Imaginarium entry at the Jewellex Africa Trade Fair 2017, which takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 8-10 October 2017.
The Jewellex Africa Trade Fair is the premier trade fair for the South African jewellery industry and has been hosted by the Jewellery Council of South Africa for over 40 years. For three days in October, this industry event attracts exhibitors from all over the world, including Europe, USA, the East and the SADC countries. It is here that new merchandise lines and the most exclusive and extensive product ranges of watches, clocks, fine jewellery, pearls and precious stones, jewellery packaging, machinery, accessories and services available are offered to the local and international retail jewellery industry.
At Jewellex, industry publication SA Jewellery News (SAJN) will be exhibiting and have specifically requested to showcase Zanele’s necklace on the SAJN stand at the fair. What an honour!
Zanele’s piece is inspired by life and time. She explains: “The ‘Alphga’ piece is inspired by the passage of time and the unbreakable and inevitable stages of life. It consists of three different parts that elaborate on the process of life, demonstrating how every life form changes from its beginning, to its prime, to its maturity.”
