This piece, entitled “Leap of Faith”, is mostly engaged with the abstract, and is an attempt at finding a method, style or process that can be applied to the production of work that metaphorically speaks of struggle.

I wish to tell stories of ordinary people and the basic struggle for the majority of South Africans to simply survive. They are everyday people, people like you and me, people whom you may see on the sidewalk waiting for a taxi.

But this work is not about starving victims; it is about people who rise above the daily grind, who have an ambition, a goal, no matter how small – be it saving for a car or having their hair dreadlocked.

That is what I would like my work to be about or, at least, to represent – the feeling of striving, improving, succeeding and overcoming something. Of having lived, and of being alive.
