February 02IN: NewsFASHION FINALIST 2016/HESTER ERASMUS My collection is to hopefully convince people to save more water and start thinking about a better, more sustainable tomorrow. ShareA more sustainable future is the message that I want my collection to convey.According to new research, a third world war will most likely be fought over water. Water is vital for human beings to survive and is crucial for irrigation, domestic and industrial use - the fashion industry included. From fibre crops, to fabric dyeing and washing clothes at home, fashion needs water.Using exaggerated A-line silhouettes, I have mixed PVC plastic with cement pieces to create my collection. Hand-sewn nylon rope and cement straps will serve as interesting detail and create a cohesive look.Although intended for exhibition purposes only, my collection will contribute to a more sustainable environment; by using PVC plastic and cement there is no need to wash the garments, therefore saving water. The vision I have for my collection is to hopefully convince people to save more water and start thinking about a better, more sustainable tomorrow.Related ArticlesMarch 21IN: NewsEMERGING TALENT POPS UP AT THE AVA GALLERY March 13IN: NewsTalent From Emerging Creatives Showcases At Pop-Up Exhibition At Nelson Mandela University Bird Street Gallery, Port ElizabethMarch 06IN: NewsMeet the Judges - Pieter Mathews, 2019February 18IN: NewsMeet the judges – Adelheid von Maltitz, 2019February 15IN: NewsMeet Judge & Curator Stephen HobbsFebruary 15IN: NewsDon’t forget the deadline!
