“Dehydration” explores droughts and the cracking of natural materials, such as clay. It was inspired by South Africa’s need to conserve water and other resources. The destructive patterns that appear when clay cracks have been replicated as an intricate design in silver, with the negative spaces filled in with cement. “Dehydration” also references the process of making and using cement, paying homage to the common issue of mixing and curing cement. “Dehydration” was created using silver, 9ct gold and cubic zirconia.
